AlGhar
AlGhar — 'laurel' in Arabic — is a captivating duo where bass, voice and hypnotic loops weave a world between soul, poetry and music from elsewhere, in French, English and an invented language.
Biography
AlGhar ('laurel' in Arabic) crafts suspended songs steeped in soul, poetry and music from elsewhere. The project began as a solo act — bass, looper and voice — around Laurène Pierre-Magnani, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of Italian and Saharan roots, previously heard with Polylogue From Sila and The Bongo Hop. Since 2024 she has shared the stage with drummer and singer Neige Arnaud: AlGhar is now a duo.
Moving between French, English and an invented language nourished by Turkish, Arabic, German and Creole sounds, its lyrics explore identity and love in an intimate, powerful performance. Experimental songwriting, groove and improvisation intertwine, in the wake of artists such as Sandra Nkaké and Leïla Martial.
In 2025, the debut album Gorgones received Radio France's 'Coup de cœur' distinction on release. Selected for the Chaînon Manquant, the duo went on to stages such as Radio France's Hyper Weekend, the Studio of the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and the Festival Les Escales, and continues touring through 2026 and 2027.
