Biography

Broussaï was born in 2000 in Mâcon, in Saône-et-Loire, formed by a group of friends passionate about Jamaican music who started out busking in the street. The band gradually built a strong identity: roots reggae nourished by dub and ska, driven by two singer-songwriters, Eric Waguet (Erik Arma, aka Karma) and Alexandre Biol (Tchong Libo), and by committed, poetic, deeply human French lyrics.

Their first album, Insurrection, came out in 2004, followed by Avec des mots (2007) and Perspectives (2009), voted best French reggae album in 2010. In 2012, Broussaï travelled to Jamaica to record at Kingston's legendary Harry J studio: Kingston Town was in turn voted best French reggae album at the 2013 Victoires du Reggae, and the band became the first French group to appear on Jamaican television. In the Street (2015) and Une seule adresse (2019) kept them on the road, touring constantly across France and Europe.

In 2023, the album Solidaires, rich in international collaborations and supported by a fan crowdfunding campaign, confirmed a generous live repertoire. A box set gathering the complete 2003–2023 discography (seven studio albums, a live CD/DVD and a maxi) followed. In 2026, Broussaï celebrates 25 years on stage on tour and unveils the single and video “Âme Sauvage” (27 March 2026), true to its humanist values and its defence of the living world.
