Biography

Le Singe d'Orchestre — “The Almost History of Music” — is a piece of musical theatre for young audiences aged 6 and up, created by the Compagnie Laissons de Côté and toured by Jaspir Prod. Three self-styled musicologists set out to orchestrate their own version of the history of music: 35,000 years retraced in just one hour, indoors or outdoors, by day or by night.

On stage, performers Fitou Jebejian, Cyril Gilibert and Pierre Dodet — who also wrote the show and composed its music — tell, sing, play and dance a fresco with the air of an epic. Absurd situations and historical shortcuts rub shoulders with genuine period secrets, and even Mozart gets drawn into the game. Travelling through time and across continents, the trio draws a true musical odyssey, with jubilant, surreal notes carried by a rock sound.

Supported by the Département de la Drôme and registered with SACEM, the show has been touring since 2016 in theatres and festivals across France and Switzerland — Festival Hop Hop Hop in Metz, Festival Jean Ferrat in Antraigues, the Fête de la Musique in Geneva, Festival Les Sons du Lac — with lighting by Maxime Forot, sound by Johan Caballé and costumes by Karine Blanchon. A joyful, learned and delightfully offbeat hour to discover music as a family.
