Biography

Mary May is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. Of Congolese origin, born and raised in Paris, she folds her roots into influences ranging from Lauryn Hill to Radiohead and Björk, blending reggae, soul and Afro-Cuban then Central African rhythms into a vibrant music carried by a crystal-clear voice and an inhabited guitar.

A guest on the live shows of producer GUTS and beatmaker ASAGAYA, she has toured across Europe — Printemps de Bourges, La Cigale, Dour in Belgium, Shambala in the UK, Fusion in Germany, Babylon in Istanbul — and appears on GUTS's EP alongside rapper Beat Assailant. She also sings in El Gato Negro's touring band and opened for Roy Ayers at the New Morning in Paris.

After two tours of Oceania (Australia, New Zealand), Mary May released her EP The 4 Elements in April 2025, a concept work guided by earth, water, air and the Quintessence: 'That Thing', a tale of rebirth, 'Na Pesi Yo', a tribute to her parents' land, 'Oyo Ayebi', an exploration of identity, and 'No More Lamentation', a duet with Naâman. Solo or in trio, she sings of what is essential and of heritage, in music that connects bodies and hearts.
