Biography

X-Stick (pronounced “cross-sticks”, after the reggae snare-drum technique so often used by drummer Vincent Yakobowski, alias Yako) marks the return of Sir Jean after four years away. Born of the meeting between Yako — drummer with Dawamesk, D-FAZ and Slamouraï — and Sir Jean, the duo delivers a live show that is powerful, organic, digital and wild: a true musical shockwave, somewhere between the ashes of the past and the beats of the future.

For thirty years, Sir Jean set stages around the world alight — Crazy Skankers, Meï Teï Shô, Le Peuple de l'Herbe, Zenzile, Brain Damage, Dokhandem, NMB Afrobeat, Conquering Sound, Roots Doctors — transcending every track with his hypnotic voice and magnetic aura. With X-Stick, the two musicians do not simply play: they invoke. Their dub, built live with machines and voice, opens a breach toward the invisible, a force that gathers people and sets them ablaze.

French press has saluted the project: Reggae.fr praises a perfectly produced result where the instrumentals are the ideal playground for Sir Jean's hypnotic, theatrical flow, in the service of conscious messages true to reggae values, while Culture Dub describes “a breath of fresh air on the back of your neck while everything burns around you”. Released and toured by Jaspir Prod, X-Stick shared 2026 bills with Flox and Hollie Cook, from Lyon's Marché Gare to Marseille's Makeda and Mâcon's Cave à Musique.
