Yack

Yannick “Yack” Chatelain, former frontman of La Mine de Rien (850 concerts, five albums), returns solo — then as a duo with electro percussionist Josselin Doubliez — for an electro-folk chanson of finely cut, poetic lyrics. Retro-futuristic, melancholic and gently ironic.

Biography

YACK is the solo project, launched in 2019, of singer, guitarist and keyboardist Yannick Chatelain — “Yack”, a contraction of his first name. A singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he first spent some fifteen years as the frontman of La Mine de Rien (2002-2016): more than 850 concerts in France and abroad — Canada, Germany, Senegal, Switzerland, Belgium — and five albums. With YACK, joined on stage by electro percussionist Josselin Doubliez, his former bandmate, he reinvents himself as a one-man band, then a duo, mastering live looping, sampling, finger pads and Ableton Live.

His music is the perfect alliance of French chanson, folk, electro and deep poetry: texts finely chiselled, sometimes sung, sometimes declaimed, built on a singular blend running from bluesy folk-song to electro by way of the chanson of the elders — a retro-futuristic touch brought to French song. Inspired by Serge Gainsbourg, Stromae and Portishead, YACK casts a disenchanted yet amused eye on the world, oscillating between melancholy, revolt and gentle irony in the face of our era's absurdities.

His first EP, Silence Radio, released in November 2022, marked the turning point toward a captivating electro-folk universe, extended by new songs — Bébés Rois, Mélancolie, Mon Lit — praised by radio stations (Volting Radio, Best Of France, Groover Radio), and by a voice venturing further and further toward slam and rap. With more than 200 concerts in France and abroad, including a tour of Bulgaria supported by the Institut Français and the City of Lyon, the duo has opened for Brigitte Fontaine, CharlElie Couture, Renan Luce, Miossec, Paris Combo, Les Ogres de Barback and The Limiñanas; in 2026, the project is supported by Le Gletains venue in Jassans-Riottier (69).
