Bensoul
A Kenyan songwriter revealed as the first signed by Sol Generation, Bensoul has been pursuing an independent career since 2023 under his own label, Sudah Nation.
Benson Mutua, said Bensoul, was born on 4 March 1996 in Embu, Kenya, into a family of musicians: his father, bassist and guitarist, passed on the taste for music. He gave up his civil engineering studies at the Technical University of Kenya to devote himself to it, played bass for H_art the Band and wrote songs for many artists, from Mercy Masika to Kidum.
In 2019, he became the first artist signed by Sol Generation, the label founded by Sauti Sol, and released "Lucy", his debut single, followed by "Favourite Song", "P.E.Qwarantunes" (2020) and "P.E. Medicine" (2021). The title "Nairobi", with Sauti Sol, Nviiri the Storyteller and Mejja, became one of his greatest hits. He also co-written "Time Flies" for Burna Boy's "African Giant" album, which was awarded the Grammy Awards.
In 2023, at the end of his five-year contract with Sol Generation, he released the album "The Lion of Sudah" and founded his own label, Sudah Nation (Lion of Sudah). His second solo album, "The Party & The After Party", was released on 27 July 2024, and was written by "Extra Pressure" with Bien. He is also a member of the KodongKlan collective, whose album "Disko" was released in December 2024.
