Agadez's "Sultane of Shred": a Tuareg guitar that conquered the world, from "Nomad" to "Sahel".
Omara "Bombino" Moctar was born in 1980 in Tidene, near Agadez, in the northern Niger, among the Tuareg Ifoghas people. In exile in Algeria, he learned guitar alone by watching videos of Jimi Hendrix and Dire Straits, then became the pupil of guitarist Haja Bebe, who gave him his nickname "Bombino", the little child.
After "Agadez" (2011), he recorded "Nomad" (2013) in Nashville with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys for Nonesuch Records: the album ranks as the number one in the Billboard World Music. Rolling Stone salutes "a perfect marriage of sound and soul", and the press compares it to Hendrix and Santana.
"Azel" (2016) invented the "tuareggae", then "Deran" (2018) made him the first Nigerian artist named at the Grammy Awards, in the category of the best music album in the world. With "Shellen" (2023), at Partisan Records, he signed his most personal record, a call to the unity of the peoples of the desert sung in Tamasheq.
