Emmerson
Superstar of Sierra Leone, based in the United States, Emmerson sings in krio and English a solar and committed Afropop — from "Tutu Party" to his duets with Davido and Lola Brooke.
Emmerson Amidi Bockarie, born on 23 December 1980 in Sierra Leone, left a computer engineering program at the University of Njala to devote himself to music. He drilled in 2002 with the compilation "Bodyguard" and the title "Yu Go See Am", and in 2004 with his first album "Borbor Bele", carried by the tube "Tutu Party", which became the most famous Sierra Leone song in the world.
Emmerson, singer-songwriter, actor and activist, writes songs that tell the daily life and carry the voice of his people, in krio, English and the languages of the country. His albums — "2 Fut Arata" (2007), "Yesterday Betteh Pass Tiday" (2010), "Rise" (2012), "Kokobeh" (2013), "Home and Away" (2014), "Survivor" (2016) — make him one of the major figures in Sierra Leone's music.
After years of being prevented from performing in the country, he finally returned to the scene of the National Stadium in Freetown on April 28, 2018 for a historic concert, "Filly". Christian Science Monitor, Al Jazeera and OkAfrica all told the story of this "pop star of the people".
Emmerson, based in the United States, has been opening a new international chapter at Wynn Records since 2024: " Stick to the Plan" with Lola Brooke and Howard Hewett, "Strawberry On Ice" with Davido, a scene at the BET Experience in Los Angeles, and the video "Holy Water" in 2025. Sierra Leone's musical ambassador has not finished making the world dance.
