Gaz Mawete, by its real name Gael Kapia Mawete, was born on 30 September 1991 and grew up in Masina, a popular commune in Kinshasa. He trained in singing and developed a style that blended Congolese rumba, ndombolo and R&B, with hints of soul and hip hop.

Signed at Bomayé Musik and then Mukongo Business, he patiently built his audience before publishing his album "Puzzle" in 2022, a milestone in his discography. His singles and collaborations make him one of the most recognizable voices of the new Congolese generation.

On 14 September 2024, he filled La Cigale in Paris, then took part on 22 April 2025 in the concert Solidarité Congo at Accor Arena. Appointed to Trace Awards 2025 in the category best French-speaking artist in Africa, he published on 24 December 2025 the mixtape "Prototype Indusa — Part 1".
