A pioneer of Moroccan "hayha", Hoba Hoba Spirit has been merging rock, reggae and gnawa since 1998, from Casablanca to the world's greatest scenes.
Hoba Hoba Spirit was born in Casablanca in 1998, around singer and guitarist Réda Allali. The band forged a sound that he called "hayha music", a festive mix of rock, reggae and gnawa traditions, sung in darija, the language of the Moroccan daily. His name is borrowed from a song by Bob Marley, the tutelary figure of the band.
With albums such as Blad Skizo (2005), Trabando (2007), El Gouddam (2008), Kalakhnikov (2013) and Kamayanbaghi (2018), the band has been performing more than 600 concerts in 20 countries. In 2007, he won three awards at the Maghreb Music Awards: Best Fusion Artist, Best Album for Trabando and Best Song for Fhamator.
The Kennedy Center, which was carried by Réda Allali (song, guitar), Anouar Zehouani, Adil Hanine (drums), Saâd Bouidi (bass) and Othmane Hmimar (percussions), continues to be a reference for live music in Morocco. In 2023, the Kennedy Center awarded him its Gold Medal of the Art, and the band continues to open the country's biggest festivals, including the Gnaoua Festival of Essaouira in 2026.
