Imarhan formed in 2006 in Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria, around singer and guitarist Iyad Moussa Ben Abderrahmane, said Sadam. The band also includes Tahar Khaldi, Hicham Bouhasse, Abdelkader Ourzig and Haiballah Akhamuk. Their name means "those who love each other" in Tamasheq.

Signed at City Slang, Imarhan released an eponymous debut album in 2016, followed by "Temet" (2018) and "Aboogi" (2022), named after the studio that the band built in Tamanrasset to record and host other musicians from the desert. Their music extends the tradition of Touaregues guitars by opening it to funk, psychedelic rock and electronic sounds.

In January 2026, the band released "Essam", the fourth album, recorded in Tamanrasset and hailed by the international music press. Imarhan defended it on a British and European tour in the spring of 2026, from Manchester to Amsterdam, through the Trabendo to Paris, while keeping its anchor in the Touarègue culture of Hoggar.
