Juventud Ancestral
The Guards of the Caucano Violín de La Toma — Conjunto de Violín Caucano — Afro-Colombian music from northern Cauca
Biographie
Agrupación Musical Juventud Ancestral is an ensemble of young musicians from La Toma, a village of Suárez, in northern Cauca (Colombia), directed by Yansi Lucumí González. Guardians of the violín caucano — the Afro-Colombian tradition of violins made from guadua and totumo — they bring ancestral memory and contemporary creation together, in a repertoire drawn from alabaos, currulaos and jugas. Revealed by Cali’s Petronio Álvarez Festival, they took 3rd place in the Violines Caucanos category in 2025, after a first podium in 2024.
