Biographie
Emmanuel N'Djoké Dibango, known as Manu Dibango (1933–2020), the Cameroonian saxophonist born in Douala, gave the world 'Soul Makossa' (1972), one of the most covered African songs in history — by Michael Jackson and Rihanna among others. A pioneer of Afro-jazz and a bridge between makossa, jazz and funk, he was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2004. He died on March 24, 2020 in Melun, near Paris. Festival TV honours his memory; his 2018 Würzburg concert, filmed by the festival, remains a precious document.
