Biographie
Meklit Hadero, known as Meklit, is a singer and composer born in Addis Ababa, a kambaata father and an Amhara mother, who arrived in the United States as a refugee in her childhood and now based in San Francisco. A graduate of Yale, Senior Fellow of TED and co-founder of the Nile Project, she began in 2010 with the album *On a Day Like This...*, and then published *We Are Alive* (2014) and *When the People Move, The Music Moves Too* (2017), where she merged jazz, folk and soul with Ethiopian traditions, singing in Amharic and English.
His recent activity is twofold: EP *Ethio Blue*, directed with composer Dan Wilson, appeared in 2024, and his album *A Piece of Infinity*, released in 2025 by Smithsonian Folkways, reinvents Ethiopian folk in Amharic, kambaata and oromo — a record hailed notably by Bandcamp Daily and radio KNKX in February 2026.
