Monza (Kane Limam), nicknamed "the president of the street", is the pioneer of Mauritanian rap and the founder of Assalamalekum, the country's largest urban cultural festival.
The real name Kane Limam is Monza, who chose a stage name that is a whole program: Original Music Native of the Authentic Zone (Africa). Crashed by hip-hop culture in the late 1990s, he became the leading figure of Mauritanian rap and won the nickname "President of the Street".
His first album, President of Rue Publik (2004), marks the beginnings of the professionalization of rap in Mauritania. The album, a confiscated time, is re-published in Mali and circulates throughout the subregion, making Monza a voice heard far beyond Nouakchott.
In 2008, he founded the Assalamalekum festival, which became the largest showcase of Mauritanian hip hop and a major event of urban cultures in West Africa. Through its Zaza Productions structure, he trains and reveals generations of young artists.
As a rapper, Monza has made his festival a lever for reflection and cohesion for young people, the 19th edition of which was held in 2026. He also chairs the Arterial Network, which connects cultural actors from the continent.
