Mr. Bow
Salvador Pedro Maiaze, says Mr. Bow or "King Bow", is Maputo's superstar: his "jago music", fusion of marrabenta, afrobeat, R&B and zouk, fills the stadiums of all Mozambique.
Salvador Pedro Maiaze was born on 30 April 1982 in Manjacaze, Gaza province. He started in hip-hop under the name MC Bow, in the band Strange Face, before moving to Maputo in 2001 to launch his solo career.
His first album, "Meu Sonho" (2008), was carried by "Txova-Xitaduma" and "Anaha-Gwente", propeling him to the summit. "Kota de Família" (2010), "Sinal de Vitória" (2012), "The King of Mozambique" (2016), "Mr. Romantic" (2017) and "Story of My Life" (2020, 18 tracks), published on his label Bawito Music.
A leading Portuguese-speaking artist at the AFRIMMA in 2020, 2022 and 2023, Mr. Bow has been multiplying the pan-African collaborations — Makhadzi, Awilo Longomba — and remains the central figure of contemporary Mozambican pop.
