Ambassador of Moroccan culture, Oum mixes soul, jazz, gospel and Hassanie and Gnaouies traditions in a song in Darija.
Um El Gaitat Benessahraoui, known as Umm, born on 18 April 1978 in Casablanca, sings from childhood in a gospel choir and goes on television at 17 years old. She graduated from the National School of Architecture in Rabat in 2002, finally chose music and became a member of the Nayda movement of Moroccan youth with "Lik'Oum" (2009) and "Sweerty" (2012).
In writing in Darija, Moroccan dialectal Arabic, she finds her signature. "Soul of Morocco" (2013), her first international album, reveals it in Europe; "Zarabi" (2015), recorded at the gates of the Sahara, and then "Daba" (2019), deepen a universe between soul, jazz, Afrobeat and Sufi and Hassani music.
A stage artist celebrated by festivals around the world, she released the concert album "Dakchi Live in Marrakech" (2024), then "Dialddar" (2026), a "made-home" album built on voice and percussion, which she presented on an international tour with a predominantly female composition.
