Sia Tolno was born on 21 February 1975 in Guéckédou, Guinea, and grew up in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where her father taught French. She discovered music as a chorister, before fleeing the civil war in 1995 and turning it into songs, with concerts supporting refugees.

Her first international album, "Eh Sangah" (2009, Lusafrica), reveals it to the European public; the 2011 RFI Discovery Award devotes her talent. "My Life" (2011) and then "African Woman" (2014), produced and co-written with the legendary drummer Tony Allen, a companion of Fela Kuti, make her a major voice from the African to the female.

Based in Paris, she has increased her tours: a member of the Afro Dead collective, she traveled across the United States in 2023, then Canada in the summer of 2024 (Nights of Africa in Montreal, Harbourfront in Toronto). Her EP "Baya" (2023) pays tribute to her sisters in Guinea.
