Souad Massi was born on 23 August 1972 in Algiers, in a music family of Bab El Oued. She learned guitar, sang in the flamenco band Triana d'Alger and then in the rock band Atakor, before moving to Paris in 1999, where the producer Island Records noticed it to the Women of Algiers of the Cabaret Sauvage.

Her first solo album, "Raoui" (2001), and then "Deb" (2003) reveal it to the French and international audiences: an acoustic folk rooted in the Algerian chaâbi, carried by poetic texts. Following are "Mesk Elil", "O Houria", "El Mutakallimun", "Sequana" (2022) and tours on the most beautiful scenes, from the Salle Pleyel to the Elbphilharmonie.

With "Zagate", announced in March 2026, and duets with Gaël Faye and Youssoupha, Souad Massi continues his work as a passerby between cultures, faithful to his gentle and luminous way.
