Takfarinas, by his real name Hassen Zermani, was born on 25 February 1958 in Tixeraïne, near Algiers, in a family of musicians. As a child, he made his first guitar with a can of oil and brake cables. He chose the name Takfarinas, in tribute to the Amazigh hero of Antiquity, and settled in France in 1979.

He invented the "Yal", a modern and dancing kabyle music, and created his signature instrument, the "Takfa": a double-handed mandolus, one male, the other female. His albums "Wa Kemma" and "Yal" (with the tube "Zama Zaâma") made him a star in Algeria and throughout the Kabyle diaspora.

Still in concert and very present on its official channels, Takfarinas continues to dance the crowds and celebrate the kabyle culture, as in his clip "La Kabylie" and his recent live.
