Ahmed Ali, said Wegz, born in Alexandria in 1998, is the leader of the Egyptian trap: from his neighborhood of El Wardian to the pyramids of Giza, he imposed a sound and a language — the dialect of Alexandria.
Wegz, by his real name Ahmed Ali, was born on September 11, 1998 in Alexandria, in the popular district of El Wardian. He started off very young in rap and became, in the late 2010s, the central figure of the new Egyptian trap scene, with titles such as "Dorak Gai" and "Batri", anthems of a generation.
In 2022, he composed and performed "Ezz Al Arab", an official song associated with the Qatar World Cup, which made him known well beyond the Arab world. His giant concerts in Egypt, including the pyramids of Giza, brought together huge crowds.
With collaborations throughout the Arab world — up to Saudi artist Dhom Altlasy on "B.B. King" — and regular releases like "ElAyah", Wegz remains the most listened Egyptian rapper of his generation.
