Two days of horse racing on a red dirt track, at the gates of the Simpson Desert: the Birdsville Races are bringing this village from a hundred to more than 6,000 people, the time of a weekend become legend — the Melbourne Cup of Outback. The 144th edition, September 4 and 5, 2026, aligns record $350,000 endowments, including 70,000 for the Birdsville Cup, and raises funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Australian Interior Flying Doctor.
Free camping on site, by the track or by light plane: this is the pilgrimage of Australian races since 1882.
