Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival
Theatre · Edmonton, Alberta, Canada — Old Strathcona
The festival
Every August, Edmonton's Old Strathcona neighbourhood becomes the North American capital of independent theatre: more than 200 productions in more than 37 theatres, more than 1,600 artists from Canada and abroad, outdoor shows and a crowd that invades the streets for eleven days. Founded in 1982 and inspired by Edinburgh's Fringe, it is the largest and oldest Fringe festival in North America. Its heart beats at the Fringe Theatre Arts Barns (10330, 84 Avenue NW), a former transit barn that became a theatre centre. The dates of its 46th edition will be announced by Fringe Theatre.
