To see around the festival

The forges of Jyrkkäkoski (Jyrkän Ruukki)

About 20 kilometres from Sonkajärvi, along the Jyrkkäkoski rapids: a blast furnace allowed from 1831 and forges that brought the area to life until 1919. The heritage site, restored by the Finnish Heritage Agency, houses a forge museum, a nature trail and Ruukin Tupa café.

The Volokinpolku Trail

About 30 km of hiking in the hills of Sonkajärvi, between the Uuranholi gorge, the Holinmäki hill and the observation tower of Hankalampi, which opens the view on the forests and lakes of Northern Savonia. Part of the route crosses protected Natura 2000 areas.
