Feria de las Flores
Traditions · Medellín, Colombie
The festival
For ten days Medellín became a garden: the Feria de las Flores is the identity feast of the capital of Antioquia, Colombia's floriculture region. Its emblem image: the silleteros of the corregimiiento of Santa Elena, peasants who descended into the city carrying on the back huge silletas — compositions of fresh flowers fixed on a wooden frame, up to 100 kilos — as their ancestors once wore flowers and passengers on mountain trails.
In 2026, the feria ran from July 31 to August 9, with its 69th Desfile de Sileteros closing on Sunday, August 9. Around: parades of Chivas y Flores and Autos Clásicos, festival of the trova, tablados in the neighborhoods, orchid exhibition at the Botanical Garden and the Superconcierto at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
Good to know
The Desfile de Sileteros 2026 was the 69th edition of the parade; the silletas can exceed 100 kg.
