The festival
In Toluca, the season of the Día de Muertos tastes sugar: the Feria y Festival Cultural del Alfeñique celebrates the art of alfeñique, a sugar paste carved in calaveras, figures and fruits that the artisan families have been selling under the Portales since 1932, according to the town hall. The Alfeñique de Toluca has been declared an intangible cultural heritage of Mexico, and the city hall announces more than 1,200 activities for the 2026 edition, between free concerts, exhibitions and workshops.
The heart of the fair remains artisanal: sugar skulls, figures of squash seed paste, turrones and crystallized fruits prepared months in advance.

All the world parties interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and show their joy.
