The festival
An opera in the middle of the Amazonian forest: the Teatro Amazonas de Manaus, a pink palace inaugurated in 1896 during the time of the golden age of rubber, hosts each year the Amazonas de Ópera Festival, one of the major lyrical events in Latin America.
The 27th edition ran from April 19 to May 31, 2026, opened with excerpts from Turandot — the year of the centenary of the creation of Puccini's opera — with Salvator Rosa by Carlos Gomes, the great Brazilian composer, and La Favorite by Donizetti, served by Amazonas Filarmônica and Coral do Amazonas. Six weeks of opera in the tropics, in a theatre built with materials from Europe by boat, crazy symbol and magnificent of the Manaus of rubber.
