The festival

The Festival d'Abéné is the traditional dance and percussion festival of Casamance in southern Senegal. It is held every year in Abéne, in its traditional period: from December 26 to January 2.

The dances of diola, mandingue, karone and balante, carried by traditional percussions, are followed by the festival, which also hosts troops from Gambia and Guinea. Among the artists documented there are Jaliba Kouyaté, Solo Cissokho and Touré Kunda.
