Festival of the Noche más Larga
Musique · Ushuaia, Argentine
The festival
In Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, the sun of June 21 only shows itself between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.: it is the longest night of the year, and it is celebrated. Declared national holiday in 1986, the Fiesta de la Noche más Larga stretches over three days, from June 20 to 22, around the Southern winter solstice. Its emblematic ritual is the "Quema de los Obstáculos": each one writes on a paper the obstacles of his year and throws it into the big fire, to leave light towards the days that extend.
National artists' concerts, shows throughout the city and fireworks on the Beagle Canal complete this world-wide festival, organized by the Municipalidad de Ushuaia.
