The festival
Each winter, Lake des Abenakis covers itself with a real fishing village: in Sainte-Aurelie, in the Etchemins, the White Fishing Festival gathers fishermen and visitors around the speckled trout, on two weekends in January. Weared by the Association des Chasse et pêche du Lac Abenakis, the meeting has been in place since at least 2008 — and its edition of the winter 2025-2026 recorded a record of traffic, according to the MRC des Etchemins.
Good to know
At the 2019 edition (11th), 8,000 10-14 inch trout were seeded before the first weekend and 6,000 more before the second; nearly 200 fishermen and some 350 people in total were on the lake on the first Saturday, despite the cold, with $1,500 in participation prizes per weekend, shoots snow and tasting smoked trout.
