The festival
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is the first Asian film festival and one of the major events in world cinema. Created in 1995, the first Korean festival accredited by FIAPF in 1997, it has retained in 2026 the new "A" status of the producer federation.
Its 31st edition, from October 6 to 15, 2026, presented 316 films on 31 screens in eight theatres, around the Busan Cinema Center and its roof in a port-à-faux, which became the emblem of the Haeundae neighbourhood: 247 films in official selection from 59 countries, including 105 world or international premieres, the largest selection since 2019. The competition, created the previous year, brought together 14 Asian films.
Michelle Yeoh was named Asian Filmmaker of the Year, Ann Hui received the Camellia Award, and the opening film was Kim Jong-kwan's The Table: Day and Night. In parallel, the 21st edition of the Asian Contents & Film Market was held from October 10-13.
