The final score combines the live performance of the jury and the public vote. The final score is a combination of the live performance of the jury and the public vote. The award is presented by Golden International Promotion, the Beninese promoter Alli Wassi, alias "Sissy", who launched the Benin Golden Awards in 1997. He competes with artists from all over the continent in two categories, "Afro Ethnic Music" and "Urban Music", before an international jury that awards more than seven trophies — including the Public Award, the Best Video and the Best Live Presenter.
After five itinerant editions — Guinea-Conakry in 2019, Burundi in 2022, Cameroon in 2023, Gabon in 2024, Equatorial Guinea in 2025 — the 20th edition returns to Cotonou, from November 9 to 15, 2026, with 27 invited countries; five Guinean artists are competing and Chad is represented by Jethsonat, nominated in Afro-ethnic music.
