Gorée Diaspora Festival
Diaspora and memory · Gorée Island, Dakar, Senegal
The festival
The Gorée Diaspora Festival is an international art festival created to establish links, through art and cultural exchange, between Senegal and the descendants of Africans deported from the island of Gorée, a place of memory of the slave trade registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1978. The documented edition of 2019, from Sunday 17 to Friday 29 November, brought together students and artists from Senegal and abroad around a first melting of collective iron, conferences and visits to cultural sites, with the support of the municipality of Gorée and the Senegalese Ministry of Education.
A previous 8th edition was announced from November 25 to 27, 2016 on the theme "Memoir and Resilience". No recent edition or future edition could be confirmed at an official source: the festival seems to be on hold since 2019.
Good to know
No active official website found on 22 October 2026: any new edition will have to be reconfirmed with the organizers or the municipality of Gorée. Gorée Island is on a boat from the port of Dakar.
