The festival

In D'Kar, in the Ghanzi district at the gates of Kalahari, the Kuru Dance and Music Festival gathers the San communities of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa every August under the full moon. Created in 1997 by the Kuru Cultural Centre, it dances and sings the Naro San and their neighbours: hunting dances, rituals of passage and the famous healing trance dance, sacred heart of the encounter.

It is the largest San cultural gathering in Southern Africa, a joyful affirmation of a long-threatened identity. Around the fire, elders transmit, children learn, and San culture is celebrated itself.

Your images are worth Festivos

You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
