The festival

In San Andrés Mixquic, a village from the Alcaldía Tláhuac, the Día de Muertos is located in one of the most traditional registers of the capital: offerings on graves, processions and prayers from 31 October to 2 November. The highlight is the Alumbrada, on the evening of 2 November, when the lights of the cemetery are extinguished and the families light thousands of candles on the graves to guide the return of souls.

The celebration is part of the Internacional Festival of Día de Muertos de Tláhuac, carried by the Alcaldía and the Secretaría de Cultura of the capital.
