The festival

Founded in the 1980s and presented as Queensland's oldest cultural event, the Laura Quinkan Dance Festival brings together up to 1,000 dancers from 20 Aboriginal communities on the Cape York Peninsula every two years. Laura's village is also the guardian of Australia's largest rock art collection, the Quinkan galleries, ranked among the top ten in the world.

The June 2026 edition was postponed by the organizer, Ang-Gnarra Aboriginal Corporation — a prolonged rainy season, fuel prices, uncertainty — and will take place from June 4 to 6, 2027. An early postponement, to protect a unique gathering.

Good to know

Never post June 2026 as future edition: official report to June 2027.

Your images are worth Festivos

You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
