The festival

In Mize, the royal capital of the Luvals near the town of Zambezi, in northwestern Zambia, Likumbi Lya Mize is the great traditional ceremony of the Luval people. It crowns the rites of initiation of girls (wali) and boys (mukanda): masked makishi dancers, spirits of the ancestors with spectacular costumes, revive the luval myths in the royal arena, in front of the Senior Chief Ndungu.

Songs, drums, crafts and speeches by the chef are on the rhythm of several days of celebration, the last weekend of August. No 2027 edition is yet announced.

Your images are worth Festivos

You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
