The festival
The Merrie Monarch Festival is the world summit of the Hula: a week, from March 28 to April 3, 2027 for its 64th edition, at the Edith Kanakasole Stadium in Hilo, on the great island of Hawaii. Dedicated to King David Kalākaua, the "joyyed monarch" who revived Hawaiian arts in the 19th century, the festival sees the best hālau (hula schools) in Hawaii and the continent compete in hula kahiko (old) and 的auana (modern), with the election of Miss Aloha Hula — the competition runs from April 1 to 3.
Created in 1964, a hula contest since 1971, it makes Hilo, the week following Easter, the living capital of Hawaiian culture.
You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
