Naghol — the leap of the gol

The festival

The Naghol is the ritual that inspired the jump to the elastic: south of the island of Pentecost (Vanuatu), the men of the Saen country jump from the top of wooden towers up to 30 meters, from the lianas tied to the ankles, to approach the ground of their shoulders. Every Saturday, from April to the end of June — season 2026: from April 4 to June 27 — when the lianas are flexible and safe, the ceremony gathers the whole village in songs and dances.

Fertility rites linked to the harvest of yams and courage test, born according to the legend of a woman fleeing her husband, it is one of the most spectacular customs in the Pacific.
