Natale di Roma
Historical holiday · Rome, Italy
The festival
The Natale di Roma celebrates each April 21st the anniversary of the legendary foundation of Rome by Romulus, on April 21st, 753 B.C., the date from which the Roman chronology Ab Urbe condita was counted.
For the 2779th anniversary, in 2026, Roma Capitale promoted a free program of cultural events from 19 to 22 April throughout the historic centre, with simultaneous concerts of armed forces bands on emblematic squares such as the piazza del Campidoglio and the piazza Pia on 21 April at 5:30 p.m. The popular tradition adds the great historical reconstructions of Gruppo Storico Romano, including the Circo Massimo procession via dei Fori Imperiali to the Colosseum. The festival is held on a fixed date each year on April 21 (next occurrence: Wednesday, April 21, 2027, program 2027 not yet published on October 22, 2026).
