Rann Utsav — White Desert Festival
Cultural festival and desert · Dhordo (Kuch), India
The festival
Every winter, the village of Dhordo, on the edge of the Grand Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), hosts the Rann Utsav: a "city of tents" set up in front of the world's largest salt desert, organized by Gujarat Tourism. For more than four months, the festival brings to life the Kuchi culture — folk music and dances every evening, crafts (brodery, Rogan art, pottery), regional gastronomy — in a white salt landscape that becomes silvery under the full moon, the most popular nights of the season.
Dhordo was recognized as one of the Best Tourism Villages of the UN Tourism in 2023. The 2026-27 season runs officially from November 1, 2026 to March 7, 2027.
Good to know
