Sanyuesan
Zhuang Song Festival · Nanning, China
The festival
The Sanyuesan, literally "the third of the month", is the most solemn feast of the Zhuang people, the largest minority in China, concentrated in the autonomous region of Guangxi. It falls on the third day of the third lunar month — April 19, 2026, April 9, 2027 — and has been an official three-day holiday since 2014 throughout Guangxi, a first for an ethnic holiday in China.
His heart is the song: the crowds respond to the songs of the great fairs with songs (gexu), where they traditionally came to choose a husband or a wife. Around: bamboo perches dance, rice sticking to the five colors tinted with plants, colorful eggs that are interchoked, and embroidered balls thrown between young people. The party also honors the ancestors and marks the awakening of spring, at the time of the repicing of rice.
The 2026 edition of Guangxi opened in Nanning, the regional capital, with programming combining Immersive technologies and ASEAN cultures, and activities in all the cities of the region until May 24. The great historic gathering is held in Wumming, near Nanning, land of zhuang songs.
Good to know
Regional holiday in Guangxi: transport and accommodation is very much needed during the three days.
