Summer Solstice at Stonehenge
Traditional and popular parties · Amesbury, Wiltshire, United Kingdom
The festival
Every year, at the summer solstice, thousands of people — Druid, pagan, family and curious — spend the night in Stonehenge to see the sun rising behind the Heel Stone, in the axis of the Neolithic monument. English Heritage then opens the circle of stones in free access framed (Managed Open Access), one of the few opportunities to walk among megaliths.
In 2026, the rally was held in the evening of Saturday, June 20, with a parking opening from 7 p.m., in the morning of Sunday, June 21, the longest day of the year. Sunrise is also followed live online for those who cannot move.
Good to know
Managed Open Access managed by English Heritage: one of the few opportunities to enter the stone circle. Sunrise is also broadcast live online.
