The festival
Te Maeva Nui, "the great celebration", is THE Cook Islands National Rendezvous: almost two weeks, from July 25 to August 4, 2026, where delegations from all over the archipelago converge towards Rarotonga for competitions of dance (singing and percussion (singing) of rare intensity, at the National Auditorium Te Are Karioi Nui of Avarua. The festival culminates on August 4, the day of the Constitution, which commemorates the country's autonomy in free association with New Zealand since 1965.
Tank parades, craft markets and feasts make these days the beating heart of kuki airani identity.
You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
