The festival

In Lodwar, the capital of Turkana County, northern Kenya, Tobong'u Lore — "welcome home" in Turkana — brings together Ateker pastoral communities from Kenya and neighbouring countries. The county government presents the festival as a time of celebration of Turkana identity: traditional dances and music, gastronomy and craftsmanship tell of the "cradle of humanity" of Lake Turkana basin.

It is a festival of peace and reunion between pastoral peoples, which has become a great event of cultural tourism. Its period varies according to the editions: the 8th opened in October 2024 and the 9th was held from 15 to 18 December 2025 at the Ekalees Centre in Lodwar; no 2027 edition is yet announced.

Your images are worth Festivos

You are at a festival, a concert, a village party, a traditional party, a private party — even two or three, on a boat or on a plane? Send us your images: Festival TV analyses them, and if they are broadcast, they pass on with your name in credit. Program in preparation. All the parties of the world interest us: we want to see how different communities celebrate life and manifest their joy.
