Tomorrowland Around the World

The festival

In 2020, the pandemic forced Tomorrowland to cancel its Belgian edition. In just three months, its teams invented something else: a completely digital festival, built in the 3D Unreal Engine engine, on an imaginary island called Pāpiliōnem. Eight virtual scenes with scenes worthy of the biggest editions of Boom, the theme The Reflection of Love, and an entry ticket — a first for an online festival of this magnitude.

More than 60 artists are filmed on green background in studios in Boom, Los Angeles, São Paulo and Sydney, then embedded in virtual settings; Katy Perry makes a remarkable appearance. The result exceeds all expectations: more than a million spectators are following the event around the world, July 25 and 26, 2020 — the first major digital festival in history, which has paved the way for a whole genre.

A second digital edition followed in July 2021, before the return of the open air editions. No later edition is announced: this sheet keeps the memory of a founding moment in the history of the festivals, with the official aftermovie of 2020 incorporated below.

What to see — the cradle of Tomorrowland in Boom

The Schorre estate, in Boom — the ponds and hills where Tomorrowland plants its scenes each summer. Notre Dame Cathedral in Antwerp — the largest Gothic cathedral in Belgium and its Rubens. The Saint-Rombaut tower of Malines — the UNESCO bell tower and its carillon, fifteen minutes away.
