The festival
Toronto explodes in colour: flamboyant costumes, soca and parades — the Caribbean take the city. Born in 1967 as Caribbean — a gift from the Caribbean community in Canada for its centenary — the Toronto Caribbean Carnival is organized by the Management Committee and is one of the largest cultural festivals in North America, with over one million participants and spectators and more than half a billion dollars in spin-off for Toronto.
The 2026 edition, under the theme "We Move the Carnival", was launched on June 13 and culminated from July 30 to August 3: the King and Queen Showcase, the Panorama of Steelpans, the Junior Carnival and, on Saturday August 1, the Grande Parade — thousands of "masqueraders" in artisanal costumes, from Exhibition Place at Lake Shore Boulevard. Carnival entered its 60th year in 2027.
