The festival
In the Huasteca potosina, the Día de Muertos takes the name of Xantolo, Latin sanctorum: the families build arches of cempasúchil and altars loaded with tamales, fruits and candles to receive souls. The huehues's likes, masked dancers who embody the deceased, travel the villages to the sound of the huapango.
The Government of San Luis Potosí opened the 2026 season on 29 September in Ciudad Valles with the ritual of the Bajada de Máscaras, and also carries tradition to the capital of the State with "Xantolo en tu ciudad".
