World music resonates in Montreal: the Gnaoua Festival, 3rd edition

Trilingual announcement (English, French, Arabic) of the return of the Gnaoua Art and Cultures du Monde Festival to Montreal, the World Music Festival.

Behind the festival, a man and a tradition: the Maalem Rachid Salamate, initiated in Casablanca with master Hmida Boussou, founded in Montreal the Salamate Gnawa group in 2012, and then the festival that makes the Guembri and the qraqeb sound far from Morocco. The gnawa music, it was inscribed in 2019 as an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO: it is this treasure that Montreal celebrates.

After a second edition from August 31 to September 2, 2024, the third edition of the Rialto Theatre resonated on May 9, 2026 with Salamate Gnawa Fusion, the founder's group. Maalem Omar El Hayat was also at the party on April 25, 2026, as part of the Gnaoua FEST: two masters, one trance, and Montreal who dances.

Festival TV relays the announcement of the festival's return in three languages — French, English and Arabic — and follows it in its world of world music, alongside the great festival of Essaouira, present in the catalogue.
